As adventurous and charming downtown Toronto may be, a dynamic 180 in your environment is always refreshing – and I don’t mean by visiting the CN Tower! Why go up when you must come down? Instead, Mariposa Cruises took their guests above and beyond with their specialty Mardi Gras dinner cruise, cruising along Lake Ontario, leaving the city noise behind for a few hours.
Wow, wow & wow! This was our first time on a cruise with Mariposa and it was amazing. We are often near the waterfront and see the beautiful lake sparkling in the sun. We have always talked about going on a dinner boat cruise and finally one day we planned it and boy are we glad we did!
Our fingers were crossed that it would be a mild, dry and warm summer evening. Luckily we got just that. We boarded the Northern Spirit Cruise ship from the Queens Quay port and we were in such awe with the size of the ship up close. We were greeted by the Captains and friendly staff when we arrived and entered the white doors to the main dining room and bar area.
When you think Oktoberfest your mind could either imagine a classy evening with a German-themed menu, or a beer hall full of drunk people swilling beer. Thankfully Mariposa’s Oktoberfest cruise was the former, although secretly I would have been happy with either.
Upon boarding the “Showboat” with my brother, we were shown to our seats and a waiter took our drink orders. This wasn’t going to be a beer-hall type evening, but I couldn’t let the opportunity pass to get into the Oktoberfest spirit and swig from a stein so I ordered 1L of beer. It was a good deal because I even got to keep the stein which now sits above my television.
Captain Matthew Flinders sacrificed his freedom to become the first to circumnavigate Australia and discover it as a continent. A rugged navigator and respected cartographer, he endured undeniable hardships to explore, discover and further our collective comprehension of the modern world, and in this man’s humble opinion, I believe that he would be proud of the ship at Toronto’s Harbour front bearing his name.
My wife and I… yes wife, it still sounds strange when I say or write it, but strange in the best of ways, (we are newlyweds), decided to take a Saturday night dinner cruise aboard the aforementioned Captain Matthew Flinders, and we were blown away by its majesty and grace. (more…)
Mariposa Cruises’ guest Catrina Ascenuik recounts her experience aboard the Captain Matthew Flinders for the end of summer Hawaiian Luau Dinner Cruise on the Toronto Harbour.
My significant other and I decided to toast to the end of summer with Mariposa’s Luau Cruise on the Toronto Harbour. It was the perfect night to say goodbye to summer and ring in September.
From the start, a beautiful luau dancer named Olivia, who placed lei’s around our necks, greeted us. My boyfriend was particularly thrilled by the idea and thoroughly enjoyed that experience. (more…)
On a sunny and bright Friday evening, my girlfriend and I attended Mariposa Cruises’ Retro Dinner Cruise on the Toronto Harbour.
Before boarding, we were greeted by some of the friendly crew, and a photographer for a local paper covering the outing. We had our picture taken and promptly boarded the Northern Spirit while being welcomed warmly by more of the crew already on board.
When a coworker mentioned a recent date night she and her fiancé had had out on the Toronto Harbour, it piqued my interest. A three hour tour, complete with dinner, drinks and dancing sounded like the perfect way for my boyfriend and me to celebrate our two year anniversary. (more…)
Whether it’s due to plans falling through or rainy weather, it seems that I never get a chance to see fireworks on Canada Day weekend. So when I had the opportunity to book Mariposa Cruises’ Fireworks Cocktail Cruise, I jumped all over it. (more…)
I boarded the Captain Matthew Flinders for the first time on the hottest Saturday of the summer to perform for the Summer Sizzle Cruise.
When I arrived on deck I met some of the crew members who were working hard to prepare for the cruise. They took a moment to stop and introduce themselves and offer any assistance I might need. Everyone was so kind and I felt very welcome to be on board.
I was excited to play 3 sets on 3 different decks of the ship and was looking forward to getting the show started. As I finished my sound-check and went to the deck for some fresh air passengers began boarding the ship. (more…)
Take a walk down memory lane with Mirella & Kim as they describe what it was like to host their wedding on Mariposa Cruises’ Showboat 17 years ago on September 20, 1997 and what it was like to celebrate their 17 year wedding anniversary with Mariposa Cruises on the very same boat that they were married on.
