At Mariposa Cruises we strive to exceed expectations and provide our guests with the highest levels of quality and service. It’s what sets us apart from our competition and why we are recognized as Toronto’s best recreational cruise by Consumer Choice Award and voted one of the top attractions in Toronto by Trip Advisor. It would be impossible to achieve this without the dedication and hard work that each of our team members exemplifies. For this reason, we want to celebrate our team members and let you get to know them a little bit better.
This month we would like to introduce you to our Accounting Supervisor Daniela Georgescu.
Daniela is celebrating 19 years with Mariposa Cruises this year. A consistent recipient of our Shining Stars Award, Daniela is a valued member of the Mariposa team.
Not only has she contributed to the success of our organization through her knowledge and diligence, but she has mentored many grateful accounting students throughout her tenure here. Daniela always takes the time for other Mariposa colleagues and is an incredibly helpful resource.
Her accounting expertise ranges widely as our seasonal business dictates, and she has developed great relationships with our partners and suppliers as a result. Part accountant, part keeper of all Mariposa information, Daniela continues to be a great support to others on the Mariposa team.
Let’s see what Daniela had to say:
When did you start working for Mariposa Cruises?
I started working for Mariposa Cruises on March 24, 1997.
What is your role at Mariposa Cruises?
I was hired as the bookkeeper for the company and then moved up to being the Accounting Supervisor.
What does a typical day at work look like for you?
Lots and lots of paperwork, even more numbers, and dealing with a lot of people.
What’s your favourite thing about your job and working for Mariposa Cruises?
The boats – I once dreamed of going on one and having fun. I never thought that I would work for a corporation owning boats. I also love the people here. We are like a big family.
What do you do when you’re not working at Mariposa Cruises?
I like travelling. I could go on never stopping. I also like doing crafts, though I never have time for it.
Do you have a favourite quote or words that you live by?
Try to be good and all will be good.
Who is your role model? Why?
Oh, I am not really into role models. I was not brought up that way. I like a lot of people and a lot of them have inspired me throughout my life. I am a feeler, I see a lot and process it and absorb it in my life in my own way, never copying anyone. I always look at the good side of things and this is what I admire the most in people – goodness and balance in life.
If you could charter a boat and take it anywhere in the world, where would you go? Why?
Well, I think it’s hard to only go to one place. I like a lot of places and I wish to go and see so many others. Probably if Mariposa would give me a boat, I would go to the Dominica Island- not to be confused with Dominican Republic. My husband and I visited it a while ago and I was so surprised at the innocence of the people and their wish to do well in their life regardless of the financial aspect, or considering it very little. Mostly their preoccupation was to teach their children well and help them have a good life. That was a first for me, seeing those people so united for a greater purpose. I guess you can see that only in small groups of people. Within the big groups of people, politics get in the way and it gets so confusing and hard to identify who is who for real, and who is doing or whishing what.
If you could meet anyone, living or dead, who would you want to meet? Why?
I would have liked to meet Luciano Pavarotti. I so admired him for his wonderful voice. I find he is the best tenor of all time, and I always enjoy hearing him sing.
What songs are included on the soundtrack to your life? Why?
I love “What a wonderful world” by Louis Armstrong. The melody is so peaceful and smooth and gracious, and the verses speak of the goodness of man, and the happiness around. I guess it is everybody’s dream to live around happy people and share that with them.
I also love ”Imagine” by John Lennon. I am so moved by that song. He was a great artist and this was one of his best pieces. I am a dreamer and always will be. I’m an idealist and so was he. The verses take me right where I like to be and the music is so great.
We hope you enjoyed getting to know Daniela as much as we have. There are plenty of other Mariposa team members for you to meet. Be on the lookout each month, as we will be spotlighting a new team member on our Meet the Crew segment on the Captain’s Blog.
