At Mariposa Cruises we strive to exceed expectations and provide our guests with the highest levels of quality and service. It’s what sets us apart from our competition and why we are recognized as Toronto’s best recreational cruise by Consumer Choice Award and voted one of the top attractions in Toronto by Trip Advisor. It would be impossible to achieve this without the dedication and hard work that each of our team members exemplifies. For this reason, we want to celebrate our team members and let you get to know them a little bit better.
This month we would like to introduce you to our Harbour Tour Manager Michael Brake.
Once the Director of Operations at Mariposa back in 2005/2006, Michael rejoined Mariposa Cruises Harbour Tour team two seasons ago as the Harbour Tour Manager. Michael is a mover and shaker with both the groups and general public and he plays an important role in revving up our Concierge Referral Program by getting Mariposa’s name out there! Michael has worked in the Hospitality Industry for many, many years and has proven himself to be a huge asset to the Harbour Tours team.!
Let’s see what Michael had to say:
When did you start working for Mariposa Cruises?
This is my second season. I started in 2014 and previously worked with Mariposa as an Operations Director from 2005-2006.
What is your role at Mariposa Cruises?
I am now the Harbour Tour Manager.
What does a typical day at work look like for you?
A typical day commences with getting the booth and boat ready to receive guests. Then, of course, managing the tours, the staff and guests. I occasionally do a Harbour Tour myself.
What’s your favourite thing about your job and working for Mariposa Cruises?
I love always being on the water and in the fresh air meeting different people and enlightening them with knowledge of the wonderful Waterfront and Islands.
What do you do when you’re not working at Mariposa Cruises?
Sailing or home renovations.
Do you have a favourite quote or words that you live by?
“Eat, drink and be merry” – without over indulgences. These are great words to live by.
Who is your role model? Why?
Mahatma Ghandi for inner peace and wisdom and Churchill for doggedness.
If you could charter a boat and take it anywhere in the world, where would you go? Why?
I would take a sailing vessel on a world circumnavigation and spend time in Asian ports and Pacific Islands.
If you could meet anyone, living or dead, who would you want to meet? Why?
I would say Joshua Slocum and Ernest Hemmingway. Both explorers with different tales to tell. Both men of the world, intriguing, colourful and daring. I think that’s something to look up to.
What songs are included on the soundtrack to your life? Why?
60s and 70s music – music of the youth, back then. What can I say, sometimes Gustav Mahlev adds to the surrounding countryside…
We hope you enjoyed getting to know Michael as much as we have. There are plenty of other Mariposa team members for you to meet. Be on the lookout each month, as we will be spotlighting a new team member on our Meet the Crew segment on the Captain’s Blog.
