At Mariposa Cruises we strive to exceed expectations and provide our guests with the highest levels of quality and service. It’s what sets us apart from our competition and why we are recognized as Toronto’s best recreational cruise by Consumer Choice Award and voted one of the top attractions in Toronto by Trip Advisor. It would be impossible to achieve this without the dedication and hard work that each of our team members exemplifies. For this reason, we want to celebrate our team members and let you get to know them a little bit better.
This month we would like to introduce you to our Harbour Tour Supervisor Emily Pringle.
Emily is a great asset to the Harbour Tours team. She is our dedicated, hardworking Harbour Tour Supervisor! Her vivacious and outgoing personality as well as her in-depth knowledge of the history & sites of the Toronto Harbour makes her a crowd favourite when she delivers narration aboard our 45 minute scenic harbour tours. Her passion and constant desire to help, work harder and provide excel-lent service is what we love about her!
We are very fortunate to have Emily Pringle as part of the Harbour Tour Team.
Let’s see what Emily had to say:
When did you start working for Mariposa Cruises?
This will be my fifth season working here; I started the summer of 2011.
What is your role at Mariposa Cruises?
Almost everything involving the boats. I am the part-time Harbour Tour Superviser, but the days I’m not supervising, I’m narrating, selling at the docks, serving, and/or bartending. I’ve even done some time in the office…
What does a typical day at work look like for you?
Let’s see: Clock in, organize, set up the boat, meet tour groups, narrate, run to booth, run to boat, run back to booth, hop on the boat, narrate again, figure out any inconsistencies in our booking system, clean up, clock out, leave….
There is always something different going on, but on an average day where I’m not supervising, that list sums it up.
What’s your favourite thing about your job and working for Mariposa Cruises?
I absolutely love meeting new people and hearing our guests’ stories. Whether they’re tourists or Torontonians enjoying the harbour, it’s great interacting while being on the water. Plus, how many people can say they’ve worked on boats?
What do you do when you’re not working at Mariposa Cruises?
I’m still a student so much of the off-season I’m in school. (A year left and I’ll be teaching. Yay!) However, when I’m off work or have a day off, I’m pretty laid back and enjoy rollerblading or having a fire pit in the backyard with some friends. Recently my boyfriend and I try to do at least one new thing a day; whether it’s trying a new restaurant or watching a new movie…anything to keep life interesting!
Do you have a favourite quote or words that you live by?
“Love all, trust few, and do wrong to none.” I think this is just a great, simple quote by one of my favourites: Shakespeare. It’s pretty self explanatory and it provides the basis on how one should live.
Who is your role model? Why?
It’s cliché but definitely my parents. They’re both just so hardworking, supportive, and loving. I owe so much to them. I also have a few other parental figures that have guided me along the way. I’m fortunate to have such strong people in my life.
If you could charter a boat and take it anywhere in the world, where would you go? Why?
Everywhere! (But maybe Europe first. I’ve already been to England and this summer I’ll be off to Cannes). I’ve always liked travelling and only now have I had more opportunities to do so. I would say ever since working at Mariposa, the idea of sailing around the world is a new life goal.
If you could meet anyone, living or dead, who would you want to meet? Why?
That’s tough. I may go a little nerdy here and just say the cast of either Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings. There are some great actors and actresses among them.
What songs are included on the soundtrack to your life? Why?
Oh gosh, there is a whole slew of random songs that I’d have to include. I guess this would be a generic soundtrack in a chronological order of my life:
- Pretty Woman by Roy Orbison
- Stop by The Spice Girls
- Into Deep by Sum41
- We Intertwined by The Hush Sound
- Comfort Eagle by Cake
- Santeria by Sublime
- Time Warp from Rocky Horror Picture Show
- You and Me by Lifehouse
They’re all quite random but that sums up my music taste. These are some of the ones that have meant so much to me at various points in my life and are quite nostalgic.
We hope you enjoyed getting to know Emily as much as we have. There are plenty of other Mariposa team members for you to meet. Be on the lookout each month, as we will be spotlighting a new team member on our Meet the Crew segment on the Captain’s Blog.
