At Mariposa Cruises we strive to exceed expectations and provide our guests with the highest levels of quality and service. It’s what sets us apart from our competition and why we are recognized as Toronto’s best recreational cruise by Consumer Choice Award and voted one of the top attractions in Toronto by Trip Advisor. It would be impossible to achieve this without the dedication and hard work that each of our team members exemplifies. For this reason, we want to celebrate our team members and let you get to know them a little bit better.
This month we would like to introduce you to one of our Servers & Bartenders Lev Kozhevnikov.
Lev joined the Mariposa team in June of this year. While he originally started as a Server his extreme dedication to his work and eagerness to learn new skills saw him rise to the rank of Bartender very quickly. Not content to stop there, Lev has tried his hand at many different areas of Mariposa Cruises’ business by helping out with our Operations team, volunteering to work in the galley for our Company Picnic, as well as joining our Accounting team as a volunteer Accounting Clerk during his days off. Lev’s determination to succeed is backed by his inquisitive nature and willingness to work hard with passion and enthusiasm. His optimistic attitude, charismatic approach, friendly smile and love of teamwork make him a great addition to our team!
Let’s see what Lev had to say:
When did you start working for Mariposa Cruises?
I started working for Mariposa Cruises on June 9th 2015.
What is your role at Mariposa Cruises?
On cruises I am a Server and Bartender. Behind the scenes I have also worked in Operations and volunteered in Accounting this summer.
What does a typical day at work look like for you?
When bartending, I start by setting up the bar and counting the alcohol. I then perform my best in speed bartending during the initial rush. Thirdly, in the middle of the cruise (if not that busy) I enjoy putting time into every cocktail and mixing the special ones upon request. Last but not least, I cooperate with another bartender to close the bar as fast as possible and make it shine by the end of the shift. And finally I go and get my tips!
What’s your favourite thing about your job and working for Mariposa Cruises?
The reciprocal program has let me discover Toronto this summer. I love the city! Working on the boat was some extra fun that let me enjoy the city even more. Moreover, I liked that by working in various departments I observed how the company is operated.
What do you do when you’re not working at Mariposa Cruises?
I travel and observe Toronto with friends or by myself. When I lived in Richmond Hill, I loved to cycle in the area up north.
Do you have a favourite quote or words that you live by?
“Live and let others live.”
If you could charter a boat and take it anywhere in the world, where would you go? Why?
I would go to Russia via the Atlantic Ocean. The reason for this is that I would catch the Gulfstream and see the ports of the Mediterranean Sea during my voyage.
If you could meet anyone, living or dead, who would you want to meet? Why?
My uncle, he is alive and traveling around the world. I would show him my journeys!
What songs are included on the soundtrack to your life? Why?
Instrumental compositions because they are capable of expressing a big variety of emotions and rock, because it’s adventurous.
We hope you enjoyed getting to know Lev as much as we have. There are plenty of other Mariposa team members for you to meet. Be on the lookout each month, as we will be spotlighting a new team member on our Meet the Crew segment on the Captain’s Blog.
