Mariposa Cruises’ guest Laura D recounts her experience aboard the Captain Matthew Flinders during last year’s Z103.5 boat cruise. Join us again as we host their 2nd annual party cruise on July 21st..
The horn sounded and the engines swelled. The decks of the luxurious Captain Matthew Flinders yacht were filled with droves of beautiful people dressed in their most luminous whites as they waved goodbye to July.
The sun may have been setting but summer was still in full swing, and the folks who usually help fill the radio airwaves were making waves on Toronto’s Harbourfront for the annual Z103.5 appreciation cruise.
At the height of summer and in the midst of a heat wave, it was really refreshing to be out on the decks enjoying the cool breeze coming off the water. I was glad that I brought a light sweater and wore sensible shoes to climb the steep steps that led me to explore the various levels of the ship. The view from the top deck was certainly worth the climb.
Attending the boat cruise was a fantastic opportunity to network with all kinds of people who work in various aspects of the media industry. For an aspiring young media professional such as myself, I found value in being able to casually rub elbows with people in my field and even collected a few business cards. But it wasn’t all strictly business.
Speakers at every corner carried the tunes being spun by the station’s very own DJ Danny D and DJ Drew. Some of the station’s legendary personalities like the beloved Tony Monaco, and the unmistakable Scott Fox did an awesome job MC’ing throughout the evening, turning the boat cruise into a full out party cruise.
They where keeping the crowd hyped by giving away a grand-prize trip to Florida, sports game tickets, encouraging guests to take photos at the Z103.5 photo booth and getting everyone on the dance floor – no matter what deck they were on! Even CP24’s Patricia Jaggernauth was on board! The ship was at its maximum capacity but with three levels of food, music, and bar access throughout, there was always someone new to meet and something new to explore.
The delicious hot and fresh finger food stations which consisted a roast beef station, hot dog station, fresh dinner rolls, crispy spring rolls, flaky spanakopita hors d’oeuvres, a variety of sweet cakes, assorted cupcakes and a beautiful Z103.5 chocolate cake was enjoyed by all 575 guests!
Time sailed as smoothly and quickly as the boat did. Before I knew it, it was 10pm and we were back at the dock. But, the night was still young and the party spilled out into the heart of beautiful downtown Toronto where I carried on some of the good conversations and connections I started on the yacht. It was an evening with such great value, high energy, entertaining music and gorgeous views! Z103.5 and Mariposa Cruises hosted a great party and I will definitely be back with my friends next year!
